B Black Deer –  Apex Break

**Hand-stamped labels** L.I.E.S. fix their sights on the horizon with two shots of motorik groove for the highway. Luke Wyatt aka Torn Hawk follows his excellent transformations of Karen Gwyer with a sprawl of chugging machine patter and wide-open country/krautrock guitar riffing called 'Born To Win (Life After Ghostbusters)', and Willie Burns hits it out of the park with a mighty B-side as Black Deer running sprung breaks and throbbing bass under virulent vaulting arpeggios - killer tune!

[POM33] Tin Man - Underdog EP Pt. 1 [FLAC-WEB-2013]

Tin Man ‎– Underdog EP Pt 1

Label:Pomelo ‎
Cat No:POM33
Format:Vinyl, 12", EP
Country:Austria
Released:03 Jun 2013
Genre:Electronic
Style:House, Acid, Techno

Tin Man nods to classic acid techno with pedigree production chops on 'The Underdog EP PT1' for Austria's Pomelo imprint. With 'U.R.' he builds a militant, stomping head of steam inspired by the Detroit dons' early '90s missiles; 'Stay Down' is a gripping exercise in submerged deep techno building to a superb lysergic breakdown.

Two years after his debut full length on the label, Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons will release the second artist album, Gordian, by Romanian Cosmin TRG. Since that debut, the now Berlin based Cosmin has toured the globe, taking his rusted techno frequencies to places like fabric, Berghain and Sonar, at the same time as releasing more essential EPs on Rush hour and 50 Weapons.

The new album marks something of a new direction for Cosmin, however – it’s a much more intricate affair that deals in plenty of fuzzy texture, percussive energy and his trademark skimming bottom ends, but looks outside the techno world for its influences.

“Gordian is as much a document of my past year as it is the beginning of a conversation. The title references an ancient myth, but describes the very contemporary, impossible task of discerning between real and replicated, authentic and contrived. Coping with facts, objects and bodies, the necessity of ‘making it’, fear of failure, fear of ‘not being happy’ are today’s topics, and Gordian is my attempt at an exploration of those issues.”      Buy Vinyl | Try

[HOYA004] JTC - Park Days EP

JTC - Park Days EP

Label: Hoya Hoya
Cat #: HOYA004
Released: March 2013
Quality: FLAC
Genre: House

Tracklist

01 - South Brooks
02 - Argo
03 - Creal
04 - Gallup

Four helpings of rugged, trippy house from James T Cotton, who's already had a prolific 2013 so far, with three 12" salvos on Killekill and Ansantz. The Hoya:Hoya crew welcome him into their Manchester fold for this tip-top EP, which wastes no time in showing the nu-school analogue housers how it's done. 'South Brooks' is a subtly crafted, terrifically assured opener, with dainty, faux-naive synth melodies oscillating around a tough but low-slung, Rheji Burrell-style jack. 'Argo' is on a more open-ended, intuitive boogie tip, world-keeps-turning arpeggios bristling against deft 808 patterns with shades of Cloudface and Moon B. Things get properly freaky on 'Creal', a shining example of how JTC can push the familiar Windy City house template into the realm of abstraction without compromising fluidity or funk. The closing 'Gallup' is proper starlit, Virgo-style business, its dreamy synth fills and commanding, centered B-line begging to be busted on your motor's tapedeck as you cruise Illinois and Michigan's liminal spaces, drumming the steering wheel, thinking of what is, and what might've been.

[SPC-16] James T Cotton - Press Your Body [2004] (320)

James Cotton ‎– Press Your Body EP

Label:Spectral Sound ‎
cat No: SPC-16
Format:Vinyl, 12", EP
Country:US
Released:01 Jun 2004
Genre:Electronic
Style:Techno, Experimental

Tracklist

A1 Press Your Body
A2 Blue Blood
B Bizarre Carnival

3 wicked cuts, from the definite warehouse anthem 'Press Your Body' with its lo-fi distorted feel and looped vocal that remembers a hedonistic era of techno, to the solid and ultra tight acid line that loops and rises across 'Bizarre Carnival' - creating a superb groove that will win the old school head as well as introducing you youngsters to a more naïve and innocent era in techno music. Last up the b-side has one long track 'Blue Blood' (though the sleeve and label say otherwise?) which starts off with a straight up techno template that gets bit-crushed and crunched into a long epic techno track of classic proportion, lots of modulation, breaks, drops and dsp edits making for a brilliant track, good sh*t from Tadd and one of his many monikers. Tip.

Purified techno from Len Faki sanctified by Berghain's Ostgut Ton imprint. Quite simply, nobody makes 4/4 quite like Len. There's an intensity, integrity and lip-biting impact to his tunes that can't fail on the right 'floors. This 'BTX' trio is a perfect case in point, offering hi-grade club fuel in the haughty gallop and womb-like bass waves of 'BTX1' on the A-side, backed with the recalibrated shimmy of 'BTX2' on the flip, emphasising a slighter shuffle whipped into place with strafing, aerobic gasps while gorgeous chords elevate the whole thing to 3pm darkroom heaven.

[NNA052] Belarisk - On Amorphous Dawn

Quality: FLAC
Genre: ELECTRONIC

Daniel ‘Oneohtrix Point Never’ Lopatin cohort Lee Tindall returns with this latest collection of warbling synth oddities for the on-form NNA Tapes label. A surprisingly melodic affair, Tindall sidelines his predilection towards extreme noise in favour of the kind of haunting, cavernous riffs that wouldn’t sound out of place on an Aphex Twin album (think SAW1+2). All this, and Tindall has managed to avoid the temptation to plonk a 4/4 over everything in the hope of making ‘techno’ – this is singular stuff, and Tindall’s vision is clear from beginning to end. With a virtuoso technical expertise, we are treated to far more than ‘simply’ synth jams as each track is pushed and pulled through a variety of half-working pedals, mixers and tape machines giving an unpredictability that’s rarely heard in the scene.

Italian producer Joe Drive serves you his first ep for 4lux. And what an excellent EP this is. Deep house tracks with a true analogue feel. Rain Dance is an exquisite deep house bomb with smart TR707 drum programming, deep driving bassline and disco-ish vibes. Title song Junopolis is dedicated to the legendary Juno synths and shows you capabilities of these machines in clever fashion. Alden Tyrell brings you the extremely deep remix for Tefnut: steady drum programming with spaced out synth filtering and dubby tape delays. This is one for the heads for sure. Joe Drives' original is included too. Recomended
