[HOYA004] JTC - Park Days EP

JTC - Park Days EP

Label: Hoya Hoya
Cat #: HOYA004
Released: March 2013
Quality: FLAC
Genre: House

Tracklist

01 - South Brooks
02 - Argo
03 - Creal
04 - Gallup

Four helpings of rugged, trippy house from James T Cotton, who's already had a prolific 2013 so far, with three 12" salvos on Killekill and Ansantz. The Hoya:Hoya crew welcome him into their Manchester fold for this tip-top EP, which wastes no time in showing the nu-school analogue housers how it's done. 'South Brooks' is a subtly crafted, terrifically assured opener, with dainty, faux-naive synth melodies oscillating around a tough but low-slung, Rheji Burrell-style jack. 'Argo' is on a more open-ended, intuitive boogie tip, world-keeps-turning arpeggios bristling against deft 808 patterns with shades of Cloudface and Moon B. Things get properly freaky on 'Creal', a shining example of how JTC can push the familiar Windy City house template into the realm of abstraction without compromising fluidity or funk. The closing 'Gallup' is proper starlit, Virgo-style business, its dreamy synth fills and commanding, centered B-line begging to be busted on your motor's tapedeck as you cruise Illinois and Michigan's liminal spaces, drumming the steering wheel, thinking of what is, and what might've been.

[SPC-16] James T Cotton - Press Your Body [2004] (320)

James Cotton ‎– Press Your Body EP

Label:Spectral Sound ‎
cat No: SPC-16
Format:Vinyl, 12", EP
Country:US
Released:01 Jun 2004
Genre:Electronic
Style:Techno, Experimental

Tracklist

A1 Press Your Body
A2 Blue Blood
B Bizarre Carnival

3 wicked cuts, from the definite warehouse anthem 'Press Your Body' with its lo-fi distorted feel and looped vocal that remembers a hedonistic era of techno, to the solid and ultra tight acid line that loops and rises across 'Bizarre Carnival' - creating a superb groove that will win the old school head as well as introducing you youngsters to a more naïve and innocent era in techno music. Last up the b-side has one long track 'Blue Blood' (though the sleeve and label say otherwise?) which starts off with a straight up techno template that gets bit-crushed and crunched into a long epic techno track of classic proportion, lots of modulation, breaks, drops and dsp edits making for a brilliant track, good sh*t from Tadd and one of his many monikers. Tip.

Purified techno from Len Faki sanctified by Berghain's Ostgut Ton imprint. Quite simply, nobody makes 4/4 quite like Len. There's an intensity, integrity and lip-biting impact to his tunes that can't fail on the right 'floors. This 'BTX' trio is a perfect case in point, offering hi-grade club fuel in the haughty gallop and womb-like bass waves of 'BTX1' on the A-side, backed with the recalibrated shimmy of 'BTX2' on the flip, emphasising a slighter shuffle whipped into place with strafing, aerobic gasps while gorgeous chords elevate the whole thing to 3pm darkroom heaven.
